To me the telling comment from the company was .. "the original battery manufacturer is no longer in business.” this making replacement and upgrade more complicated. I image the cost is also prohibitive. With an industry like ferry's who have to be 99.9% dependable, batteries are not the best option, but the narrative wins over the sensible report.

Is it the "green" returns (tax credits) that make this so appealing, over human health and safety or just the virtue signalling?

In these Scottish waters passengers would be dead in minutes.

Yes, not only is a new battery needed, but all the software and controls also. I wonder if they'll just forget it because of the expense?

If they follow the now familiar Green pattern, they will FIRST spend several multiples of the budgeted sum; THEN they will quietly scrap the whole project. No one, of course, will ever be held to account for this colossal cock-up.

Except the taxpayers - who will continue to pay, for decades, for this exercise in applied stupidity - which no doubt includes the salaries and pensions of the incompetents who orchestrated the whole fiasco.

Egregious breach of government fiduciary duty to taxpayers......over and over again

So the design life of the battery was 10 years, yet at the 10-year mark they didn't start looking for a replacement until the battery failed?

Good question ⁉️

There you go - making sense again.

As far as I can determine, the Green mentality appears to be subject to a genetic predisposition that somehow precludes the ability to actually think things, any things, through.

More research is needed.

'Sturgeon was described as the ship’s godmother and said at the time it “symbolised everything the Scottish Government is striving to achieve”.'

At least she was prescient ;)

Thanks. I didn't even know about electric or hybrid ferries until seeing this. I'll mention it in an update on my Jan 4th post on BEBs since they're both public transportation.

Astonishing that they would even consider such a thing - even if there was a link to man-made global warming, ya think these ferrys are going to make a difference?

Merciful.
